Helpful Hints

Graphics: Text and Fonts

Using fonts in a project:
Use one or two type families.
Match the attitude of the font to the topic,
e.g. Arial is a casual sans-serif choice, while Garamond provides a semi-formal look with serifs.

Graphic Imagery
Incorporating appropriate graphics effectively will create a positive impression that compliments the content.

Photography
The right photograph does more than illustrate a point. For the viewer, it captures an idea that is familiar and hopefully emotive. See the TCU Library's website for image resources suitable for presentation.

Color
How to use color in a project: Like fonts, keep variations simple, complimentary, and predictable for professional results.

Office 2007 - Black and White Pattern Fills - Create predictable black and white prints by adding this patterns solution to Office 2007.

Color matching, calibration and conversion tools - Calibrate your monitor, cross reference colors like RGB to CIE L*A*B, CMY, sRGB and so forth based on light conditions.

Ink Colors (typical):
RGB (Red, Green, Blue)
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black)

Light (typical sources):
RGB (Monitors use RGB to produce color) - Light passes through the monitor to display the image.
CMYK (Printing industry uses CMYK to produce color) - Light reflects off the surface behind the ink creating color through the translucent layers of cyan, magenta, and yellow inks.
